Art and text illuminating the complex lives of some of the world's most misunderstood and fascinating animals, the rat.

Maligned throughout human history as the carrier of disease and subjected to cruel scientific testing, The Rattie Uprising is a collaborative project to begin a conversation about small animals and their role in society.

The Uprising is a celebration of the rat - as well as the mouse and smaller animals - who are often misunderstood, are the subject of cruel experimentation and are excluded from the Animal Welfare Act which purports to regulate the care of animals used in scientific research.

Yet rats clearly have the ability to feel it (affection) and the ability to induce it in others.

More than any other species of animal, the rat and mouse have become dependent on man, and in so doing they have developed characteristics which are amazingly human.
